Archive Exhibition until 30th September

The London River Man - Sculpture prints

This month we are delighted to be exhibiting some of the most exciting works in our archive, all by leading Sculptors who worked at the Curwen Studio with Stanley Jones. The exhibition includes lithographs, etchings and rare documentation from the archive, including work by Barbara Hepworth, Elisabeth Frink, Henry Moore, John W. Mills, Lynn Chadwick, Ralph Brown, Richard Deacon and Kim Lim. The exhibition highlights in particular the unique qualities of sculptors’ drawing and their nuanced approach to working with printmaking materials such as stone and metal in a planographic sense, rather than 3D forms. Through their relationship with master printer Stanley Jones, they developed their ideas through printmaking, experimenting with textures, colours and mark making, learning the possibilities of print. Many works were published during the 1960s and 1970s during a boom in contemporary printmaking and now belong in museums and collections worldwide.

The exhibition is free and open during our usual working hours, Monday - Friday 10am - 4pm and Saturdays 7th and 28th September 10am - 4pm.
