We are delighted to now have an experienced Fine Art Print expert working with us to catalogue our collection of prints and documentation. This will take some time including the necessary research before all the information and images can be added to our website.
In time, the archive will be online for everyone to visit from the comfort of your own home, educational premises or place of work wherever you are in the world.
In the meantime we wanted to share one of our recent gems from the archive. The image is of an Edward Bawden CBE RA linocut 'The Queens Garden' which is an original linocut created by Bawden. This is special as it is the first working proof annotated by Bawden himself and given to Stanley Jones in order to create a lithography edition of 160 of the exact image in 1986. The notes around the image give a detailed insight into the process of collaboration between Artist and Master Printmaker. This was one of the last projects Bawden was involved in before his death in 1989. It was donated to the Study Centre by Master Printmaker Stanley Jones.
We will continue to update you on our progress from time to time so you can share the excitement of our journey of discovering and recording printmaking history.
