Rachel Busch Printmaker 1962 - 2022

Feb 17, 2023

It is with sadness we share the death of Printmaker Rachel Busch who attended courses at Curwen Print Study Centre. Rachel died in November 2022 and this week her Mother and Sister visited the new studios here at Great Thurlow.

'Rachel would’ve have loved it and I know she would’ve wanted to support the centre and help in keeping your future secure.  She was passionate about art and talked about how she wanted art to be accessible to children of all backgrounds'.

Curwen would like to thank all those who donated in memory of Rachel for their support.

Rachel's background was as an Illustrator. After graduating from Maidstone School of Art with a BA(Hons) in Illustration she worked as a freelancer in editorial publishing for over 25 years.

Looking for a change in artistic direction Rachel discovered The Fry Gallery in Saffron Walden and was inspired by the work of the 'Artists of Great Bardfield', in particular Edward Bawden, Eric Ravilious and Sheila Robinson. Having always been inspired by printmaking she enrolled in a course at The Curwen Print Study Centre and never looked back.

Her work was recognised by The Royal Academy who selected one of her prints for the Summer Exhibition in 2018 and shortlisted others in both 2019 and 2020.
