The Arts Scholars Curwen Lithography Bursary

Apr 11, 2025

This bursary is named for the generous funder supporting this opportunity, The Company of Arts Scholars Charitable Trust.  Curwen has a long history of working with Lithography, which is now included on The Heritage Crafts Red List of Endangered Crafts.  Stone Lithography in particular is considered to be endangered and has been removed from many art school and university printmaking facilities.  This bursary offers a learning opportunity in a professional printmaking studio for the recipient to study Stone Lithography, along with studio time to allow them to further develop their printmaking practice.  It refelcts our aim to support the continuing skills of hand pulled printmaking within art in the UK, and to support emerging artists in developing their work.

The recipient will be offered a fully funded residency of 10 x studio days. The studio time incorporates 2 x one to one taught days with Stone Lithographer Paul Sharrock, plus 8 x studio development days.  All materials are provided as well as 10 x days B & B accommodation in the village. The recipient will need to provide their own transport to and from the studio and additional meals.
