Curwen Delivers Creative Packs to Cambridge City Council in Support of Family Home Activities

Jul 20, 2020

Last week as part of the Creative Packs Project we delivered 250 printing packs to Cambridge City Council for distribution to families via the City Food Hubs. These packs contained all the materials and guidance needed for home Relief and Monoprinting. We were delighted to be able to be involved with this project.

'THOUSANDS of children in Cambridge will be able to access the city’s major cultural venues from their own homes, thanks to a partnership between Cambridge City Council and the city’s leading cultural institutions, including the Fitzwilliam Museum, the Cambridge Folk Festival, and Kettle’s Yard.

With many families turning to online education and cultural activities in light of widespread school closures, parents have been asking for a wider range of offline activities for their children. The need is especially acute in households with limited digital access.

The creative packs project is funded by generous grants by the National Lottery’s Community Fund, the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, the Cambridgeshire Freemasons, and Jesus College Cambridge.

Each pack includes inspiring activity sheets and arts and crafts materials so families can share positive experiences together. Many families have limited digital connectivity and may not have arts and crafts supplies in their homes.

The packs will be distributed via Cambridge’s community resilience networks and network of food hubs, established in response to Covid-19. The Council plans to distribute 500 packs every two weeks in a project set to run for 12 weeks.

Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “We’re very grateful to our funders for their generous support, which allow us to reach thousands of families in our city. And of course we are also very grateful to those brilliant organisations who designed these packs. This is a great opportunity to provide stimulating educational activities that families can do together. They celebrate some Cambridge’s rich cultural offering, and bring it right into the home.’

The packs have been designed by some of Cambridge’s most famous arts venues and cultural institutions, including the Fitzwilliam Museum and Kettle’s Yard. Also participating is the Cambridge Folk Festival, the city’s world-renowned celebration of folk and roots music which has taken place every year since 1965.

Further participating organisations include Cambridge Curiosity & Imagination, Cambridge School of Art, Curwen Print Centre, David Parr House, Epic Tales, Melody Footsteps, Menagerie Theatre, The Museum of Cambridge, New International Encounters, Oblique Arts, Rowan Arts, The Big Weekend, and Wysing Arts Centre.'
